Mindfulness, Eco-Heros & Green Club: Innovative Before and Afterschool Garden Programs

Panelists:
  • Carson Cornbrooks, Director of Programs, Education Outside

  • Kristin Owyang, Program Associate, Education Outside

  • Moderator: Tim Galarneau, Food Systems Education and Research Specialist, Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems, University of California, Santa Cruz

This workshop will provide participants with ideas and resources to conduct innovative and creative programming in the garden before or after school. We will share the story of a 20 year old school garden in San Francisco and how incorporating current educational innovation around mindfulness, creating opportunities for student leadership through a Green Club, and acknowledging student initiative through Eco-Heros creates a vibrant and ecoliterate urban public school. Participants will learn about each of these programs, how to launch them at their sites, and will engage in discussion around challenges and eliminating barriers to implementation.
