  • Moderator: Tim Galarneau, Food Systems Education and Research Specialist, Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems, University of California, Santa Cruz

As a non-profit working to provide life-long residential and program opportunities for individuals with special needs, a key element of our vision at Sunflower Hill has been our edible garden. Built in April 2015, the Sunflower Hill Gardens provide educational and vocational horticulture opportunities for special needs individuals. In this session, we will share some of most important things to consider when designing a garden for special needs individuals. Attendees will learn how we adapted the educational and vocational horticulture programs, how we help to develop social and life skills and how we work with local schools and community to ensure the success of our programs.
